Real turf or artificial grass?
Real turf
Rolls of grown lawn laid onto prepared, level soil. It's the cheaper option and it's a proper lawn, but it needs watering for the first few weeks and mowing after that.
Artificial grass
Laid over a compacted, free-draining base with a weed membrane, so it stays flat and rain goes straight through. No mowing and no mud, and it looks the same all year. It costs more up front than real turf.

Should I go for real turf or artificial grass?
Real turf if you want a proper lawn at a lower price and don't mind mowing. Artificial grass if you want it green all year with no mowing and no mud, and are happy to pay more up front.
Does artificial grass drain?
Yes. It has drainage holes and goes down on a free-draining base, so rain soaks through instead of sitting on top.
Can you lay a lawn with a new patio?
Yes. We lay patios, paths and fencing as well, so a whole garden can be done in one go.
