Porcelain patios in Wigan
Porcelain hardly takes in water, so it stays clean, barely grows moss and doesn't fade. We lay porcelain patios, paths and steps across Wigan and the North West.

What you get
A porcelain patio that stays level, drains properly and wipes clean.
- Rotten decking and broken slabs cleared first
- Laid on a solid base with the joints filled
- Steps, edging and borders to match
Why porcelain
It stays looking new
Porcelain slabs are fired at a very high temperature, so they hardly take in any water. Spills wipe off, moss struggles to take hold, and the colour doesn't fade in the sun.
Grip underfoot
Outdoor porcelain has a textured finish for grip. Like any hard surface, it can still be slippy with ice or wet leaves on it.
Why it costs a bit more
Porcelain is harder to cut than stone and needs a bonding primer on the back of each slab so it holds to the bed underneath. That takes longer, so it costs more to lay than Indian sandstone.

Questions about porcelain patios
Is porcelain better than Indian sandstone for a patio?
Porcelain if you want a patio that stays looking new with very little upkeep. Indian sandstone if you like natural stone and a lower price, and don't mind it weathering and needing a clean now and then.
Is a porcelain patio slippery?
Outdoor porcelain has a textured surface for grip, so it's fine to walk on wet. Like any patio, it can be slippy with ice or a layer of wet leaves on it, so give it a sweep in autumn.
Can porcelain go over my old patio or decking?
We take the old patio or decking up first, so the porcelain goes down on a proper base rather than on top of something that might move.
Do I need planning permission for a porcelain patio?
Usually not. A patio laid at ground level in a back garden doesn't normally need planning permission. A raised patio more than 30cm off the ground does.
